Looking over at the sound of Hex's voice, Danny sighed, getting onto the train anyway. The car was empty, something that would usually be a rare treat, but now only made it impossible for Danny to hide from the other man.

"I've got to be honest, Hex. This looks like a bad night to me," Danny chuckled, pointing at the humbler. "This on the other hand..."

He took the tentacle and laughed as it squirmed. "That looks like it could be fun."

He smiled then, warm and kind. "It's brilliant you're doing your show. I wish there'd been something like it when I was a kid. ...I did so much stupid shit when I first came to London."

"That's exactly why I do it. Maybe people wil be a little wiser. Do it for good reasons, not get hurt or tolerate bad doms, learn why it can be fun and even strengthen relationships," he said.

"You're a good man," Danny smiled. "You've got a good heart, don't you?"

"I try. I really do try," he said. "I didn't used to. But I met this man, this Doctor, and he turned me life around. Opened me eyes to something bigger," Hex confessed.

"He the reason you became a nurse?" Danny asked.

"No. No, I was a nurse when I met him. I actually became a nurse because of me nan, believe it or not. She told me often I should do something for a living that someone would always need. I think she had it in her head that I'd become a cobbler, but I was always in love with the story of Florence Nightingale...so? Nurse," Hex explained.

"And what about this?" he asked, gesturing at the kit. "What got you into Bondage?"

"Porn," he replied simply. "One of me mates had a dirty magazine and the girls did nothing for me but I liked the bondage. And, well, you can find anything on the internet. And when I came to London after I got out of the army I got into the scene through a friend."

"I used to date this bloke who was really into it. Wanted me to be his full time slave," Danny admitted. "I did it too, for a while. ...'Till I learned he was secretly married."

"Oh, that's awful," he replied, genuinely horrified. To him that was a horrible breach of trust and one that Danny should have been told about so he could truly consent. Lies and deceit had no place in the community, he felt, and that was another reason for the videos. He wanted people to get into this authentically, not falsely.

"I'm so sorry."

Danny only shrugged though. "It's alright, it was fun while it lasted. A nice fantasy, you know? Sometimes I think it's for the best he was married. I'm not sure it would have worked out long term."

"Yeah, and if he lied about that he probably lied about a lot," he said with a nod. "But, yeah, it can be a nice fantasy. I've thought about it but I don't think I would be comfortable living that way twenty-four-seven."

"It's too hard," Danny admitted, wrinkling his nose. "...Did like getting all my meals brought to me though, even when I had to eat on the floor," he laughed, shaking his head and smiling brightly.

"Alex was never... He was never interested in that sort of thing. That was nice too in it's own way. Everything with him was slow, vanilla- But raw and real. I liked that as well. Or maybe I just liked it with him."

"I would have liked him, I think," he said. "Everything you say about him. I think we could have all been mates."

"He didn't have a lot of those- But I think he'd have liked you too," Danny said honestly.

Hex smiled at that. It was strange but he felt like he and Alex would have either got on or hated one another, and likely because of Danny. He wondered briefly which it would be.

"Tell me again how you met," he said, moving the foot locker out of the way so he could sit and listen.

Danny smiled and gladly told the story again- Of being strung out in the early hours, of the water bottle. He talked about how he went out every day, hoping to run into him again, until finally things started to happen.

"It was fate, I think. Fate I saw him that morning."

Hex smiled at the story, spellbound by the romance of it. It was a lot more romantic than being the nurse who gave Danny a positive result.

"I love hearing that," he said. "You light up when you talk about that moment."

"It changed my life," Danny said seriously. "You only get so many moments like that, I think."

"I believe that's true," Hex said. "And I believe the right person will come into your life exactly when they're meant to. When we need them- for good or ill."

"Like you came into mine," Danny replied.

He smiled at that and held his hand out to Danny to get him to join him on the bed.

"Like you came into mine," he replied.

Danny moved to sit with him, then smiled and settled onto Hex's lap instead.

Hex wound his arms round Danny and pressed his head to the man's chest. He could hear his heartbeat and smiled at the sound of it.

"I like this shirt. It's soft. And you smell nice," he said affectionately.

"Yeah? I just wore it because I don't have many to pick from," Danny confessed with a soft chuckle.
