Danny had been thinking about texting John all day, but as the sun vanished beyond the horizon he finally sat down on the edge of the bed with his phone. He wrote a message- Then deleted it. Then another, which he also deleted.

Finally he wrote something he didn't hate.

Two words, nothing more. He just hoped John replied.

He let his trousers fall and he stepped out of them, taking Danny in his arms.

"Hardly. I promise," he said before kissing him again.

Danny pulled his own shirt off, then slipped his arms around John in return.

The kiss was a good distraction from his worries and self reflection.

John moved smoothly to his neck to kiss and lick his way from one spot that made Danny moan to another. His fingers found the man's waistband and pushed them down so he could feel more bare skin.

Danny gasped, pressing closer and groaning softly.

"John..." he moaned, the word fading into another soft sound of pleasure.

Danny swore softly, groaning and catching John by the hair to pull him up for another hungry kiss.

Part of him wished they could talk more, that they weren't constantly just tumbling into bed. However, once things got started it was too hard to stop.

"I love when you say my name," he murmured against Danny's throat. "Just the way you say it."

He couldn't think much beyond that. That, and a keen awareness of how hard he was for him.

John followed, drawn in by Danny's gravity. The bed gave way under their weight and John settled in close.

"Are you okay?" he asked then, just to make sure that Danny hadn't suddenly come to his senses about all this. It'd happen eventually, he wa sure. He just wished this could go on for a bit.

"I'm good. ...Are you?" he asked softly, stroking John's arm.

"I am," he nodded. "Most okay I've been in a while."

John had never been good with feelings, so Danny may not realize just what a deep confession it was.

Danny smiled softly, stroking John's cheek before leaning in to kiss him again.

"Tell me what you want," he said softly.

"I want to sink into so deep and make you fucking fall apart," he said, kissing where he could reach. "I want to make you feel so good. Danny. I want to light you up."

Danny laughed breathlessly, the sound fading to a groan.

"Sounds like bliss," he replied, tangling his fingers in John's hair again to keep his mouth right there... Fuck he loved his lips.

He kissed him slowly, settling close as he dared, and rutted against him slowly.

"We should get dressed now," he suggested softly. It was never a comfortable thing for him to say- Death took the piss with him all the time calling him prude- but he was a fucking grown up and some things you just had to talk about.

"...Right, yeah," Danny said awkwardly, sitting up and reaching for the condoms.

Before he could get far, John caught his face and pulled him back. A soft kiss, then he looked into his eyes.

"S'alright, love," he assured him.

"It isn't," Danny said softly, pressing one of the condoms into John's palm. "It really isn't."

"It's a small price to pay," he countered, letting go of Danny so he could use both hands to slip into it.

Danny slipped his own on, thinking about how once upon a time he'd have just suggested they go get tested together and then fuck like rabbits, bare and free.

That just wasn't an option anymore.

John knew hundreds of men, knew of thousands more, all taken by the savage disease. But things had come so far since those dark days. Of course he still had a healthy fear, anyone with a brain would, but John knew the fear was unwarranted.

So fucking what if he caught something? He wasn't going to die. He was walking around with the power of God keeping him breathing since cancer had eaten his insides. He was pretty sure that if cancer couldn't snuff him, anything else was probably just inconvenient.

Nothing he was going to tell Danny, though. Maybe some other time. The man seemed to want to know all about him...eventually he'd have to tell him that.

"Come on, now," he said, pulling Danny back in so he could feel the whole of him.

"Sorry," Danny said softly, aware he was bringing the mood down and slipping his arms around John. "Sometimes it just- I guess it hits me harder."

"I'm sure it does," he said. His hands smoothed over Danny gently, trying his best to offer some comfort. "Do you want to tell me?"
