He'd woken up in his own bed. Alone. Safe. Normal. Danny didn't understand why or what that meant. His first instinct was to call Greg, but his phone wasn't working at all. the screen was shattered and when he plugged it in there was no sign of life.
He supposed he'd have to go get a new one.
Coffee in hand he found himself just walking, past the hospital where Greg should be checking in for his shift, past the flat Hex shared with Flynn and the others, then past the hotel where John had been staying. He could have gone into any off those places, but he just wasn't brave enough to see who was there and who remembered him.
He stared at John's hotel a beat longer, then began to walk again.

Date: 2020-06-10 01:29 am (UTC)"Oh, I'll tease you mercilessly, mate. Don't be a girl," he laughed, clapping Danny on the back, then actually grabbing his coat. "Gonna...you know," he said, pointing at the door.

"Yeah, of course," he said, aware that the moment he was alone again he'd be texting Greg.

Date: 2020-06-10 01:47 am (UTC)John stood on the porch, cigarette dangling from his lip as he watched the brightening sky.
What in the fuck did he think he was doing? Danny was right, saw right through him. He shouldn't have asked so many questions. He should sneak off. Just go home.
He looked down and wiggled his bare toes. He'd never got that far in getting dressed. So much for ghosting him.
At least Chas had shut up now that John realized how stupid he was being. There was no way this could go well for either of them, not to mention the boyfriend and his boyfriend. And that alone was another mess he didn't need in his life.
"Fuck it," he said as he flicked the but into the grass.
He walked back in.

Date: 2020-06-10 03:40 am (UTC)Danny was on the sofa, clicking through Netflix. He hadn't texted Greg, deciding he ought to wait for the other man to reach out for him.
"I can't find the movie you wanted," he admitted. "There's one about a haunted doll though."

Date: 2020-06-10 03:43 am (UTC)"Ugh, I hate dolls," he replied with a shudder. "Let's watch something funny. Maybe stand up?"
John put his coat aside and walked to the sofa to join Danny, pulling his bare feat up under him on the sofa like some sort of degenerate buddha.

Date: 2020-06-10 03:46 am (UTC)"Sure," Danny said, offering the other man the remote and settling in closer.

Date: 2020-06-10 03:57 am (UTC)John clicked through s few and chose a comedian he was sure he'd heard of.
"These are always a crap shoot," he said as he let his arm gently rest around Danny.

Date: 2020-06-10 04:19 am (UTC)Danny, for his part, leaned into him, glad for any brief distraction. After a while his hand came to rest on John's thigh, and not long after that he was sprawled out a bit more, melting into the sofa and against the other man.

Date: 2020-06-10 04:24 am (UTC)John was comfortable and Danny was warm. The weight of him was just right.
You've got no right to this, John
He tried to ignore the voice and listen to the comedian who was only kind of funny.

Date: 2020-06-10 04:49 am (UTC)Danny didn't mean to, but he was drifting off, curled up against John, half on his lap now.

Date: 2020-06-10 04:55 am (UTC)Danny grew heavier and his breathing evened out, but John was watching the show and not really paying attention.
Until he did.
He looked down at Danny's hair and reached down to smooth a few wild hairs.

Date: 2020-06-10 05:05 am (UTC)Danny didn't wake until his phone buzzed, only then coming around and reaching for his phone- No text from Greg yet, just a reminder his bill was past due. Things with James must be bad, Greg wasn't one to blow him off.

Date: 2020-06-10 05:08 am (UTC)"You've been out cold," he said. "I was going to wake you up, though. You've got class in a bit."

Date: 2020-06-10 05:16 am (UTC)"Shit, I'm so sorry, John. I'll make it up to you, yes? Let me buy you dinner or something one night?" he offered.
no subject
Date: 2020-06-10 05:21 am (UTC)"Yeah, one night," he nodded. "You should get your things ready to go. Comb your hair, put on your vest and short pants and grab your bag, school boy."

Date: 2020-06-10 06:36 pm (UTC)"Alright, old man," Danny snorted, smiling faintly.
no subject
Date: 2020-06-10 06:44 pm (UTC)"Old and still so pretty," he teased while he began looking around for his socks.

Date: 2020-06-10 06:47 pm (UTC)Danny watched him get ready, trying not to look at his phone again.
"You ever get a new phone? I could text you," he offered.
no subject
Date: 2020-06-10 06:53 pm (UTC)"Yeah, I got a cheap one. Doesn't do emojis or gifs or, well, pictures. But texts will come through."
You get what you pay for, he reckoned.

Date: 2020-06-10 10:03 pm (UTC)"I'll text you then," Danny smiled. "If that's alright, that is."
no subject
Date: 2020-06-10 10:07 pm (UTC)"I'd like it if you did," he said, even though he knew the best thing for both of them would be to walk away now. No harm, no foul. No one hurt. Just a nice memory.

Date: 2020-06-10 10:15 pm (UTC)"Cool," Danny said simply and quietly, smiling brightly and picking up his backpack. "Talk to you later then."
no subject
Date: 2020-06-11 12:08 am (UTC)John was certain that when Danny did talk to Greg there wouldn't be a text. Probably for the best.
"I'll see you, Danny," he said gently, then slipped into his coat to go.
