John - Post Asylum
He'd woken up in his own bed. Alone. Safe. Normal. Danny didn't understand why or what that meant. His first instinct was to call Greg, but his phone wasn't working at all. the screen was shattered and when he plugged it in there was no sign of life.
He supposed he'd have to go get a new one.
Coffee in hand he found himself just walking, past the hospital where Greg should be checking in for his shift, past the flat Hex shared with Flynn and the others, then past the hotel where John had been staying. He could have gone into any off those places, but he just wasn't brave enough to see who was there and who remembered him.
He stared at John's hotel a beat longer, then began to walk again.

"Yeah?" John asked, gave Danny just a second to think, then added, "Alright."
no subject
"Yeah, really. He- He's kind and he's understanding. And he's smart and cool, and- I dunno. I just like him," Danny shrugged. "...He tells me I'm clever, and I believe him."
no subject
"You don't have to explain it," he said. "You can't help who you fall for."
If you could, there'd be so many more people who would talk to him.
no subject
"Really? 'Cause it sounded as if you wanted an explanation," Danny countered with a faint smile.
no subject
"Not me. It's not really my business," he said, even though he'd made it his business. He should just listen to Chas and leave Danny alone. He couldn't possibly believe there was any future here.

"I think you've got a crush," Danny joked, his tone playful and soft.
no subject
"You make it sound like I'm a school boy," he chuckled. He couldn't help but consider the fact that when he had actually had school boy crushes, Danny was still in nappies.
no subject
"We never outgrow crushes," Danny assured him.
no subject
"Ueah... well it's stupid. I'll get past it," he lied.

"I should probably go. You've probably got loads of school work and wotnot," he said, moving to his coat.
no subject
"You don't have to," he said softly, but I won't keep you either.
no subject
John, you absolute fucking idiot. Make one good choice in your life. I'm begging you.
John looked at Danny like he was on the edge of saying something, but then it caught and he couldn't.
Chas was right. Chas was always right. He was a fucking idiot beyond compare. The word goodbye just about choked him, though.
"I can stay," he said. "I was just going to see a friend for tea later."
no subject
Danny smiled warmly at that.
"I have class later, but not until noon," he replied.
no subject
"Whatcha want to do, then?" he asked.
no subject
"Dunno, what do you want to do? Want to go out? Stay in? Go for a walk?" Danny suggested. "Or we could be lazy on the sofa and watch old films."
no subject
"I'd watch a film," he nodded. He knew he shouldn't stay, but looking at Danny, he just...
Couldn't he just be happy for a second?
no subject
"Alright. What are you in the mood for? Horror, romance... Weird porn?" he teased.
no subject
"I mean, Hell Raiser ticks all those boxes. It's a classic, how can I pass that up?" he quipped, unable to keep a smirk off his lips.
no subject
"Alright, but if it gets too scary you can't tease me if I have to look away," Danny chuckled.
no subject
"Oh, I'll tease you mercilessly, mate. Don't be a girl," he laughed, clapping Danny on the back, then actually grabbing his coat. "Gonna...you know," he said, pointing at the door.
no subject
Danny laughed, then nodded.
"Yeah, of course," he said, aware that the moment he was alone again he'd be texting Greg.

John stood on the porch, cigarette dangling from his lip as he watched the brightening sky.
What in the fuck did he think he was doing? Danny was right, saw right through him. He shouldn't have asked so many questions. He should sneak off. Just go home.
He looked down and wiggled his bare toes. He'd never got that far in getting dressed. So much for ghosting him.
At least Chas had shut up now that John realized how stupid he was being. There was no way this could go well for either of them, not to mention the boyfriend and his boyfriend. And that alone was another mess he didn't need in his life.
"Fuck it," he said as he flicked the but into the grass.
He walked back in.

Danny was on the sofa, clicking through Netflix. He hadn't texted Greg, deciding he ought to wait for the other man to reach out for him.
"I can't find the movie you wanted," he admitted. "There's one about a haunted doll though."
no subject
"Ugh, I hate dolls," he replied with a shudder. "Let's watch something funny. Maybe stand up?"
John put his coat aside and walked to the sofa to join Danny, pulling his bare feat up under him on the sofa like some sort of degenerate buddha.
