"I really hope you're right," Danny said, looking out the window with a frown.

Soon enough it was time to go back to their rooms, and Danny kept himself busy until nightfall. He'd mastered the art of slipping out his room, and had the path to the boiler memorized. He'd snagged a candle from an emergency kit at the nurse's station, and was holding it tight in one hand as he lingered by the furnace, waiting for John.

"If we get out of this place, you should stay at mine one night," he said softly.

"I'd like that," he said. John kissed him tenderly and then pulled back.

"I'd actually really like that."

Danny closed his eyes, resting his head against John and exhaling a soft sigh. For just a little while he could pretend all was well. That he wasn't trapped in some sort of nightmare.

"Don't worry, Danny. I'll figure this out and get you home."

Surely he could keep the promise this time, unlike with Astra.
